South Brent +1 Photo

South Brent

Looks like being the third year in a row that I’ve failed to find Yellow Wagtails around South Brent, cf. the heady years of 2014 to 2019. Yesterday, however, on a search in favoured fields near Overbrent, I did come across four birds that looked to be good contenders for White Wagtail. Fortunately they were adult males. Although there was no sign of any wagtails there this morning, two Spotted Flycatchers and a few Chiffchaffs provided some compensation.

Crownhill Down/Lee Moor

Frustrating views of a flock of c30 egrets flying low towards Lee Moor from W direction at 06:45. I was driving so only had brief flyaway bin views when I stopped. No sign in fields viewed from top of Crownhill Down. Worth keeping an eye out if nearby.

Caen Estuary -yesterday aft

Caen Estuary -yesterday aft

The barrel on this gun looks much too long to be a shotgun looking more like a Punt Gun which was banned between 1910 >1920.

Escot Park – Whinchat

My first record of a Whinchat at Escot Park this morning, feeding along the line of fences next to the River Tale in the marshy area. Also, 2 Little Egrets flying over was surprisingly my first this year in the park.

Caen Estuary

This home-made boat hide with an outboard motor entered the Caen Estuary this afternoon on an incoming tide.

From examining the photos my suspicions are that this could be a shooter with what looks like a pump gun with a spaniel on board.

What do you think & what course of action should be taken?
