Lower Tamar Lake

This morning at the Lake,

2 Mute Swan, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 20  Mallard, 2 Moorhen, 2 Coal Tit, 3 Blue Tit, 1 Nuthatch

1 adult WillowTit ( the one reported last week in heavy moult) feeding a recently fledged chick.

It was taking feed from the fat balls and feeding the R/F on a branch 10ft away, also taking the fat ball feed and flying up into the foliage, I imagine to feed another R/F chick, it then took sunflower seeds and ate them itself before carrying on feeding the R/F chicks.

Old Sludge Beds DWT

A cycle down to the Old Sludge Beds today. 3-4 local Swallows, 2 House Martin, 5 singing Reed Warbler, 3 singing Chiffchaff and 3 singing Blackcap, singing Reed Bunting, singing Chaffinch amongst the commoner birds.

A total of 68 Mute Swan, 58 together on the river and a pair with 8 young on the canal. Also two Kingfisher.

On the way down a Mute Swan with 3 surviving young by Double Locks. Originally there were 9!! At least they are too big to be eaten by Pike now. Finally a male Kestrel over Alphington Brook, unusual there but habitat is great with uncut grassland now.

Two Scarce Chaser on Old Sludge Beds too. Still so few butterflies. A bad year. And a terrapin in the canal.
