Redwing, Northam

It was nice to see a Winter Migrant this morning. A single Redwing was spotted on horse pasture just down from Bloody Corner.

Lots of summer warblers: Chiffchaff, Willow warbler, Blackcap but no swallows, or sand martins. 2 Blackcaps in my garden feeding on Mahonia berries which is about the only fruit available until June Berries come along.

2 Willow Tit foraging, 1 Chiffchaff, 10 Canada Geese, 4 Great Black-backed Gulls, 6 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Buzzard, 2 Willow Warbler, 3 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Linnet.

Plym Estuary & Saltram

Highlight today was a Curlew Sandpiper on Blaxton Meadow (thanks Martin). Also, Whimbrel, 34 Turnstones, 9 Greenshanks, 2 Dunlins, 3+ Common Sandpipers, Sparrowhawk, 2+ Green Woodpeckers & 4 House Martins.

Around home at South Brent 3 Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler in song, my first home Blackcap with a male singing and seen late afternoon feeding on Ivy berries, 3 Hirundines went past as the light dropped off, low and fast I suspect House Martins and a single Song Thrush.

 

Yarner Wood Pied Flycatchers showing well, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff calling all around the area, Song Thrush, 2 soaring Buzzards.

 

Approaching Caton two Mistle Thrush, numerous Chiffs and Willow Warbler and six soaring Buzzards.

South Hams

At Start, first thing: 4 Willow Warblers, Wheatear, 2 Swallows, 3 Sandwich Terns, 2 Cirl Buntings & 2 Tawny Owls.

On to Hallsands, where there was 2 Wheatears, single Reed, Willow & Cetti’s Warblers, 3 Swallows, 2 Bullfinches, Sparrowhawk, Green Woodpecker & a pair of Moorhens with 7 newly-fledged young.

Finally, at Slapton Ley: Great White Egret, 5 Sandwich Terns, a pair of Gadwalls, 4+ Sand Martins, 3 Swallows, 3 Cetti’s, 5 Willow & a Sedge Warbler, Holly Blue & Orange-tip.

A nice greeting this morning from a lovely Fox, We both stopped in our tracks for a moment before it ran off.

6 Willow Warbler all calling, 7 Chiffchaff, 19 Cirl Bunting, 1 Swallow, 2 Stock Dove, 2 Green Woodpeckers, Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming.
