Ideford Common

Probably my best sightings of Nightjars this evening on Ideford Common. Several seen flying above the treetops 100 – 200 metres away, but 3 – 4 were flying within 20 metres and swooping and hovering immediately overhead, or within a couple of metres of us. Besides the usual churring, several of the birds were making a clucking sound whilst in flight. 3 Stonechats (possibly 2 adults and a juvenile) and  a Yellowhammer seen.

River Exe nr Powderham

An Osprey was attempting to fish in the river Exe near the Powderham cycle bridge this morning at 7:20.  It was being continually harassed by a Peregrine.  While I was watching the Osprey did manage to catch something in between being attacked.
