There’s been a hundred Black-tailed Godwits on the scrape for a few days now (well 98 today) in one count, but good numbers non-the-less. In the reserve this morning, 20 Long-tailed Tits (at least) a Chiffchaff, and later a probable Siberian Chiffchaff.

Powderham to Turf

East Devon Branch had an excellent outing last Thursday 10th. A total of 51 species including a wide range of waders – curlew, avocet, OC, redshank, dunlin, knot, ringed, grey and golden plover and a lovely flock of approx. 100 black tailed godwit that landed just in front of us. Other highlights were a large group of Pintail (30+) and a snipe (uncharacteristically) wading in one of the ditches in the fields.

The Skern

The Skern

Early afternoon at The Skern, with the tide well out – 1000-2000 golden plover, often in flight – plenty of dunlin, oystercatchers, with some curlew, black and bar-tailed godwit, across the mud and along the water’s edge, one female pintail just off the shoreline.

2 snow buntings made an appearance at the end of the pebble ridge, but didn’t stay in one place for long due to golfers and dog walkers.

Hoping that last year’s black redstart would return to near the bridge, but no luck, although someone did say they’d seen it there a bit earlier.
