Wrafton area

It’s getting to the time when there seems to be little to see, and report on, but as I crossed the bridge to the reserve this morning a flash of blue heading downstream was the first Kingfisher I’ve seen in the area since 5th March certainly livened up the day. No sign of the 6 Ravens from yesterday nor yet of the Great Egret. Still several Warbler species singing in the reserve, and Reed Buntings are all around.

Osprey – Tavy Estuary +1 Photo

Osprey – Tavy Estuary

On the incoming tide, a low level flyover Osprey spooking a Shelduck family on the way.  Later saw it further downstream carrying a fish and pursued by Crows. It disappeared behind some trees, then reappeared without its catch!  Could the Crows have forced it to drop the fish? A behaviour I’ve never heard of before.

Yesterday evening at 10pm a couple of swifts were sweeping over my garden and local area, sometimes at less than 30feet. I haven’t seen them feeding this late nor this low before but put it down to having lots of rain during the day.
