South Brent ~ Black Redstart
A male Black Redstart seen in the church yard at South Brent early this afternoon, Redstart, Mistle Thrush and Song Thrush feeding in the Yew trees.
Plym Estuary
In addition to Pete’s sightings of today, in between the rain deluges, four redhead Goosanders were being flushed down the river which was in heavy spate.
Wrafton
There’s been a hundred Black-tailed Godwits on the scrape for a few days now (well 98 today) in one count, but good numbers non-the-less. In the reserve this morning, 20 Long-tailed Tits (at least) a Chiffchaff, and later a probable Siberian Chiffchaff.
Plym Estuary & Saltram
Birds are clearly benefitting from Blaxton Meadow’s increased water levels; as well as several hundred commoner waders, today’s sightings there included: Grey Plover, Turnstone (another 14 on the estuary), 11 Snipe, 10 Greenshanks, 2 Common Sandpipers, 2 Shovelers new in, Teal increased to 5 & 16 Wigeon. Also around the patch, 2 Kingfishers, Great Crested & 2 Little Grebes, 3 Red-breasted Mergansers (2 drakes), 4 Fieldfares, Green Woodpecker, 3 Firecrests & 3 Siskins.

3 black redstart, 1m,2f/imm private gardens between Veasy Park and Brownhill Lane
Powderham to Turf
East Devon Branch had an excellent outing last Thursday 10th. A total of 51 species including a wide range of waders – curlew, avocet, OC, redshank, dunlin, knot, ringed, grey and golden plover and a lovely flock of approx. 100 black tailed godwit that landed just in front of us. Other highlights were a large group of Pintail (30+) and a snipe (uncharacteristically) wading in one of the ditches in the fields.

Aylsebeare Common
Late afternoon stop-off a tAylsebeare Common where there were two Goldcrest, a few Linnets and two Dartford Warblers.

One male and two females by edge of golf course and pebble ridge.
Trew Weir, drainage channel & Exeter Quay
A successful cycle to see Glaucous Gull, along Riverside Country Park from Incinerator crossing also produced Kingfisher M, Water Rail, 7 Teal, 68 Mallard, 2 Little Grebe, Raven, 18 Moorhen & 4 Coot.

Marsh Green
A nice late afternoon find on my roof top, a female-type Black Redstart. Came within feet of me catching flies. A first for the garden.

Ford Park Cemetery
Redwings feeding on the remaining berries, one I forgot to put up the other day was Fieldfares the first time spotted in this cemetery for me.

Also around the patch, drake Red-breasted Merganser, 2 redhead Goosanders, Great Crested & Little Grebes, adult Mediterranean Gull & 4 Turnstones.
