A377 near Crediton

A377 near Crediton

Today on my way home from Exeter I stopped off in the Layby near Crediton, as posted recently by Paul Buckley. The Wood Sandpiper was on the far side of the pond with a couple of Mallard. It was difficult holding my camera still  in that windy spot.

eds- this is a Green Sandpiper

Velator reserve

Still cold and windy – enough to check the enthusiasm of the newly arrived migrants: 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 2 Reed Warblers. Looking South from the reserve a couple of Herons were in flight above Sherpa Marsh – caused by a low-flying Buzzard. More of note were the 8 Little Egrets joining in the melee.

Saunton

Saunton

A vocal male Mistle Thrush on top of a telegraph pole next to a very busy main road. Fortunately, it flew a short distance to another pole where I could photograph it without being run over by a car!

The Common Whitethroat have arrived & the songs of the Blackcap, Chiffchaff & Willow Warbler are absolutely overwhelming at the moment

2 male Orangetips on the Tarka trail yesterday morning & 1 seen at Saunton this morning.
