Amazingly the 12 Pale-bellied Brent Geese (5 adults, 7 juveniles) found by Jenny at Wembury Point yesterday were still present this morning, feeding on the filmy bright green seaweed along the beach despite regular disturbance from dog walkers. Feeding together but keeping in their family groups of 2 ads, 3 juvs and 2 ads, 4 juvs with the solo adult getting hassled by the other adults if it came too close.
Another surprise was a Goosander snorkeling amongst the rocks at The Point, a juvenile bird and presumably the same as reported by David on 1/9.
A Spotted Flycatcher was in the pines at The Point (found by Jenny today), 3 Tree Pipit were feeding together in the grass in the Radar station complex, 5 Wheatear were along the rocky foreshore and a Sandwich Tern briefly rested on the rocks offshore before continuing west. Only 2 Whitethroat seen.
A Sparrowhawk spooked the small waders feeding along the beach – 9 Turnstone, 5 Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plover and a Sanderling.
