We had a big surprise on our late morning walk along Fremington Pill to the Quay with our 1st water rail here. It was pure chance that we saw it in the middle of the stream, visible from  opposite the hedge by the cottages before it flew up into the reeds and then disappeared. Elsewhere on the Pill were 3 greenshanks, plenty of redshanks and teal, curlew, little egret and the return of lots of black-tailed godwits, the kingfisher at the sluice, and on the return were 3 snipe on the far side, hiding in the greenery.
