My Merlin App was very busy in the reserve this morning – recording about 25 species, most to be expected, but some less so – GBB and LBB Gull and Willow Warbler which I didn’t hear. No Hirundines either near or over! Later I went for a walk south along the East bank of the River Caen as far as the Toll house. There are several Little Egrets between the reserve and Sherpa Marsh, many in summer plumage. A couple of White Wagtails attracted my attention, and then several Wagtails flew up from the embankment and I noticed that they had short tails. Fortunately they looped back and landed – at least two were stunning male Yellow Wagtails. No telescope so couldn’t be sure of the race…. I later counted well over 24 Pied Wagtails with maybe 6 of the Yellow types. Also present were Reed Buntings, Stonechats, Meadow Pipits, Linnets, – enough to make a return tomorrow – with the scope I think…
