What had looked like being a wet and fowl day turned out quite reasonable with just one or two heavy showers.
The walk was well supported with a strong turnout from several branches. Those who had enough stamina to do both venues were got to see a day total of 39 species (29 for L Tamar only).
Highlights at L Tamar were a wonderfully spectacular displaying male Goldcrest who was doing his very best to impress us, his crest flashed bright in the gloom of the woods, and a lovely Brambling, a lifer for some of the party. Unfortunately we only had the merest of glimpses of two Willow Tit (id by call).
At Maer we were treated to fantastic views of a very pale Marsh Harrier and a female Peregrine very nearly taking a Curlew. As we were leaving we were rewarded with a lovely Whimbrel just before the heavens opened.
