Following Steve Cox’s report about Scarce Chasers: there are unprecedented numbers around this year. This afternoon, I counted 92 on Exminster Marshes north (Milbury Lane-Topsham Ferry) and 52 on Exeter Canal (Topsham Ferry to Countess Wear). Also notable was a male Lesser Emperor (Exeter Canal between Topsham Ferry and M5), hundreds of Red-eyed Damselflies and a total of 6 Hairy Dragonflies. Small numbers of Scarce Chasers have also appeared at several sites in SE Devon and the Bovey Basin lately, plus one at Slapton – so they’re probably breeding in more places than we know!
