A cycle down from Exeter today. Cloudy morning, which seemed to put off Reed Warblers singing, only hearing/seeing about 10. However Sedge Warblers were more vocal with 11+ singing males over the marshes, though only covered half Exminster Marsh. Also 3 Whitethroat singing, 10+ Cetti’s singing, 6-7 Reed Bunting, 12+ Skylark (7-8 singing). 15+ Swift, 20+ Swallow, 12+ House Martin and 3 Sand Martin.
Ducks included a single male Wigeon, 2M Teal and 17M Gadwall all on Powderham Marsh. 3 Egyptian Geese on Exminster.
Waders on marsh at high tide were 3 Blackwit, 1 Whimbrel and 1 Redshank. Also 3 Hobbies once sun came out.
Other highlights were 3 Stonechat, which means there is the potential for 3 pairs across the whole area. Female Bullfinch on Powderham and a Great Crested Grebe flew north along canal, which was a bit of surprise.
