An enjoyable day on the marsh, cycling down from Exeter. First stop was just south of Countess Weir with large flock of Long-tailed Tits. With them were 4+ Chiffchaff, Goldcrest and unusual here, a Treecreeper. Also 2 Kestrels and. Great Spotted Woodpecker there.
Not much else until the flooded areas on the marsh. With lagoon birds included, 320+ Teal, 103 Shoveler, 390+ Wigeon, 18 Pintail (10 of which on estuary), 23 Gadwall, 4 Tufted and a F Pochard. The last three on the lagoon. Half the Shoveler and 2/3rd of the Wigeon were also on the lagoon. Also Little Grebe and 85+ Coot on the lagoon. A few Meadow Pipit and a F Stonechat by the lagoon too. 3 Chiffchaff and 3 Redwing along side the canal path.
Waders were mostly viewed from Turf, however 180+ Lapwing and 550+ Golden Plover were either on the marsh, in flight on in the case of the Plover settled on the estuary.
The tide was out but viewing from Turf was surprisingly good. 500+ Dunlin, 29+ Grey Plover, 20+ Knot, 4 Ringed Plover, 30+ Turnstone, a Barwit, 100+ Blackwit, 30+ Curlew, 50+ Oystercatcher and 220+ Avocet. Also 20 Common Gull, 450+ DB Brent Geese and 2 Great Crested Grebe.
Finally on the return leg a second CY Male Marsh Harrier over the marsh.
Other bits included at least 3 Kingfisher, 3 Greylags and 60+ Starling.
