The first pulse of Willow Warblers arrived this morning, a week or so earlier than usual, with 3/4 around Trews Weir, 5/6 at Matford Ponds, and 5/6 more strung out along the canal bank. I assume they use the Exe and maybe Culm valley as a migration corridor. Also at Matford were 4 late Snipe and the regular Little Grebe pair. On the main lagoon at Exminster were a male Pochard in very bright plumage, 3 Tufteds and another pair of Grebes. No Sand Martins surprisingly. Two male Mergansers were in the estuary off Turf , 35 Turnstones at the Kenn outfall, and an Egyptian Goose and singing Treecreeper in the Park. Finally, at lunchtime a lone Swallow raced NE along the Warren, making 70spp. for the day.
