Highlights from today’s penultimate Stuart Line birdwatching cruise of the season: 7 Eiders (2 imm males) around and on Bull Hill sandbank, a distant Spoonbill feeding on the Clyst (presumably one of the 2 immatures from Bowling Green Marsh), c15 Shags, c6 Great Crested Grebes, c100 Avocets and Bar-tailed Godwits, hundreds of Black-tailed Godwits and small numbers of Golden and Grey Plover, Sanderling and Knot. A Turnstone by rocks exposed by wave action at Topsham was odd. We could just make out a flock of (presumed) Cattle Egrets sheltering with cattle on the hillside north of Powderham. The absolute highlight, however, was a pair of Tufted Ducks off Lympstone Marines Barracks!
