Watched a slightly brownish cuckoo hopping from low tree to low tree along wall just north of red barn. Certainly behaving as a female still with some fertilised eggs to lay, looking for a convenient pippit’s nest. Several meadow pipits active in the area and one single-handedly mobbed the cuckoo. Also saw and heard a tree pipit at Yarner wood. At least 8 large fritillary butterflies from New Bridge up to Aish Torr, but none stationary long enough to see underside of rear wing. Later at Emsworthy a definite Green Winged Fritillary.
