This morning, an hour-long, multi-stop, bins.-only scan from the sea wall produced birds passing at 50-80 per minute, mainly Gannets, Auks, Kittiwakes and Oystercatchers, plus several flocks of Common Scoters. Seven more Scoters and a G-c Grebe were on the sea in the lee of Langstone Rock.
In the estuary off Cockwood were eight more G-c Grebes, all three ‘shanks, seven Barwits, and the regular Turnstone flock.
Back in Exeter, my first Fieldfare of the Winter headed N over Marsh Barton, and two Cetti’s were singing, and two Water Rails were squealing, in the Trews Weir flood channel.
