Devon Birds is our county bird society with a long and distinguished history dating back to 1928.

Since its inception, Society members have been organising and promoting the study and conservation of birds through fieldwork, recording, reserves management and publishing.

Membership is by subscription and entitles you to:

  • Receive all the Society’s high quality Publications.
  • Enjoy discounts on many items for sale in the website Shop.
  • Meet other like-minded people.
  • Attend Illustrated Lectures given by leading ornithologists.
  • Take part in Field Meetings led by experienced birdwatchers at locations throughout the county and beyond.
  • Participate in Surveys gathering valuable bird records for the Society and national organisations.
  • Visit the Society’s Reserves and Hides.
  • Attend organised Events and Activities.
  • A Vote in any AGM or Extraordinary AGM.

You will also be a member of one of the foremost County Bird Organisations, which is highly regarded in the country. Of equal significance is the fact that your membership fee helps to promote the conservation and protection of birds and wildlife within Devon.

Membership is annual, 1st Jan – 31st December, and is available on payment of one of the subscriptions, below:

  • Membership – £18 per year (includes all related members of a single household).
  • Junior Membership – £10 per year (under 16 on 1st January of the current year).
  • European & Rest of the World Membership is also available through the shop


  • If you pay any membership fee on or after 1st October, that
    gives you membership for the remaining months of the current year AND the whole of the following year.

Payment of subscriptions:

  • First subscriptions on joining can be paid by cheque to the treasurer by using the application form below or card via the Shop.
  • Subsequent subscription payments may also be paid by Direct Debit, form available below. This is our preferred renewal payment method.
  • Annual subscriptions should be paid before the end of February, each year. Membership of those failing to do so will lapse, in accordance with our Constitution.

Can we please encourage all new members to complete the Gift Aid Declaration as this adds 25% to the subscription value for Devon Birds.
