Seven days after Ian Seward took his photo of a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker at Steps Bridge, Charlie Flemming managed to capture these images of a male and female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker at Dunsford Woods on 13 March – at the fifth or sixth time of trying!

Great Spotted Woodpecker at Arlington

Thanks to Roy Churchill who sent in these superb photos of a female Great Spotted Woodpecker at Arlington. A walk through any patch of broadleaf woodland at this time of year will almost certainly yield drumming 'Great Spots' as the males establish and defend breeding territories.
