Bittern seen on Dartmoor

A Bittern was seen and photographed by Keith Bragg on 2 January 2010 at 1045hrs beside Moor Brook (SX 59059275) which is on Dartmoor, just to the east of Okehampton Camp.

The bird was watched from a car and was only 15-20 feet away.

Great White Egret at Slapton Ley

Three tremendous images of the Great White Egret presently at Slapton Ley, taken by Andrew Cunningham and Mark Darlaston.

Mike Langman reports that the bird is still present (on 17th) and showing well from the bridge separating the higher and lower leys. Although it spends much of its time deep in the reedy channels of the higher ley, it does fly around quite regularly.

Juvenile Little Egret at Filham Lake

An early morning visit to Filham Lake, near Ivybridge on 2 August paid off for keen local photographer Bruce Church. He managed a few swift shots of a Little Egret that briefly visited the lake and the angling platforms.

Cattle Egrets at Powderham

Charlie Flemming went out on the morning on 9 March intent on taking some photos in an around the mouth of the River Exe. On the way he called in at Powderham in the hope of seeing the Cattle Egrets that had reportedly moved from the Roundhouse back amongst the sheep by Powderham Church.
