Updating ‘The Birds of Lundy’

24 September 2009

Two years have passed since The Birds of Lundy was published in September 2007. While the book encompasses records of birds on Lundy from historical to modern times (up to August 2007), the website www.birdsoflundy.org.uk keeps the project ‘alive’ with a detailed account of notable records since publication. The latest website update, covering sightings to the end of 2008, was posted on 1 September.

The Lundy bird recorders, Tim Davis and Tim Jones, intend to post the next update, including notable records from the 2009 LFS Logbook, in the first quarter of 2010.

It has become apparent to the Tims, in their first full year as Lundy recorders, that a number of sightings of birds on Lundy, especially by visiting Devon birders, are sent direct to the County Recorder and not entered in the LFS Logbook, which is kept in the island’s tavern.

It would help enormously if all visiting birders would enter their sightings in the logbook. When sending records direct to the County Recorder, it would be greatly appreciated if a copy could be sent at the same time to the Lundy recorders: info@birdsoflundy.org.uk. This will help ensure that all records are properly reflected in both the Devon and Lundy bird reports.

The 2008 LFS Annual Report is currently in preparation and should appear before the end of the year.
