First autumn Robin song
7 August 2009
Each year, the autumn song of Robins resumes following their moult. The first song noted by Jon Avon at Stover Country Park this year was heard on 7 August. This was limited to a single bird, but numbers of singing Robins will increase on a daily basis from now on.
Past records of the first autumn song at Stover vary from 27 July in 2006 to 4 August in 2004 and 14 August in 2008. But how common and widespread is Robin song across the county at this time of year?
If you hear Robins singing now, Jon would be interested to hear from you. You can email your records – including place and date – to info@devonbirds.org.
