An early morning visit to Filham Lake, near Ivybridge on 2 August paid off for keen local photographer Bruce Church. He managed a few swift shots of a Little Egret that briefly visited the lake and the angling platforms.

The black feet and brownish lower half of the bill indicate that this is a juvenile, fledged this year.

Although Little Egrets are gradually increasing in numbers in Devon it is still quite unusual to see them inland and this is thought to be the first recorded sighting at Filham Lake.
