Whooper Swans on Braunton Marshes
20 February 2009
On 14 February Rob Jutsum came across two wild swans on Braunton Marshes, but they were too distant either to digiscope or identify accurately. Over the course of the next five days, Rob visited the marshes daily hoping that the swans would come within close enough range to fire off a few shots with his camera.
Eventually they approached to within 100 metres, enabling Rob to obtain the two photos below. From the size of the swans and the amount of yellow and its projection on the bill, Rob was quickly able to establish that both birds were Whooper Swans, most likely a male and female.
