Help for Barn Owls in West Devon
18 February 2009
As you may have seen on BBC Spotlight, the Barn Owl Trust has recently launched a two-year project to increase Barn Owl numbers in West Devon.
Focusing on the area between West Dartmoor and the River Tamar, the Trust is erecting nestboxes and advising landowners on habitat creation and management. In recent years, Barn Owl numbers have declined in this part of Devon, in spite of increases elsewhere. It is hoped this new initiative will help reverse that trend.
Through a grant of £3,000 for the provision of nestboxes, Devon Birds is one of the main funding partners for the scheme, alongside Biffaward (the landfill tax credit fund), with further contributions coming from Dartmoor National Park, Devon County Council and West Devon Borough Council.
