The first Devon Bird Report (DBR) appeared as an extract from Transactions of the Devonshire Association for the advancement of Sciences, Literature and Art 1929 – Vol ixi and referred to the year 1928. Since then the DBR has been published annually.

Since the end of the 1990s, the size and scope of the reports has expanded considerably, with over 290 pages in the 2003 DBR. This, together with other production limitations to do with the display of complex tables, graphs and maps, led to an increase in page size in 2007. As part of this same process, 2007 also saw the amalgamation of the Devon Birds magazine and the Devon Bird Report under the single 'Devon Birds'  Journal.

The Journal is published three times a year, the third issue, in December, being the Devon Bird Report.

For clarity and to assist researchers, the volume numbering system for the Journal follows on that of the magazine, while the third issue of each volume additionally maintains the sequence of volume numbers of the Devon Bird Report (e.g. Number 79 for DBR 2006).

The following is a listing of Devon Bird Reports from DBR 2005: 78 back to DBR 1928: 01. This reference list is expected to grow over time with the addition of a contents listing for each issue, leading eventually to the provision of all publications on-line.
